Guidelines for Discussion Posts

About Discussion Posts 

1. Read the Ground Rules for Online Discussions.  
2. Watch the video below for tips on writing great discussion board posts. 
3. Look at the tips below. 
4. Refer to the rubrics to see how your discussion posts will be scored.
5. Refer to the APA materials for help with formatting your references.

A good discussion post:

  •       Is thoughtful
  •       Contains constructive comments and responses to help further discussion
  •       Relates to the main topic
  •       Replies to posts by others regularly with relevant and constructive feedback
  •       Contains some element of research or outside experience
  •     Presents information  that is not only opinion
  •        Contains references cited in CORRECT APA format


Discussion posts will be scored based on:

  • Content: is well thought out, contains research, and presence of thought.
  • Interaction/ Communication: communication complies with online etiquette and furthers discussion
  • Format/ Style: Responses are well written, complete sentences, backed up by examples from life or research or current news events.  Contains little to no errors in either grammar or APA formatting.
