Flipgrid: Day 2

Your tasks for today:

  • There are three class readings.
  • You will participate in an online discussion on the blog below.  You will record a brief video short using Flipgrid called a "short."

As a part of your lesson plan you will need to create a Flipgrid.  You can begin to think about this.  Refer toThe Educator's Guide to Flipgrid when building your grid.

  1. For your homework yesterday you recorded a brief introduction for your classmates, now respond to at least two of their posted introductions.
  2. Read “Flipgrid and Online Discussions” and Bringing the Back Row Students to the Front of the Class Using Flipgrid
  3. Post a response to the Blog discussion prompt related to the readings.
  4. Watch the brief video about Flipgrid Shorts.
  5. Record a Short.
Your prompt for your short is:

If you could choose a song to be the soundtrack for your life, what song would it be, and why?

Share a link to your “Short” on the blog site below.

  1. I think the biggest benefit is that it can be used in so many different ways and provide differentiation among students. It also helps younger students become skilled at using technology. it also provides great benefits to the teacher like using Flip Grid as a way to check students progress. The app holds all the videos in one place and you can store and use the videos as check points to go back and compare progress over time.

    1. Having all of the videos in one place is extremely useful. When students have to submit multiple papers or presentations they can get lost. The ease of filming a flipgrid allows teachers to use them for instruction, for students who may not be in class for whatever reason, or assign students to record a flipgrid to monitor progress.

    2. Julia, I also love how flipgrid can be used in a variety of ways and with differentiation within the classroom. I like how you mentioned it being a useful tool for younger students because most people only focus on the older students. SW

  2. Incorporating flipgrid into your classroom is an amazing way to allow students to present information in an accessible way. Students who are not comfortable being at the front of the room to present may find it easier to present by filming themselves. Students can respond to each others videos and create class discussions. As a teacher it is important to monitor students progress throughout lessons and units, students can complete check-ins through flipgrid.

    1. I love the idea of using Flipgrids as a discussion board. This is very modern and will keep students engaged while doing something educational. I like how in our Lit class we used Flipgrid as an exit slip.

    2. Using it as a way to get them comfortable talking is a great idea. It’s also a good way to get everyone’s response and to have those responses all in one area.

    3. I like the idea of holding "check-ins" for students to stay updated on what they need to be working on or what is coming in the future.

  4. What benefits are there to incorporating Flipgrid into your teaching practice? One thing I noticed when using flipgrid myself is how easy it is to use, navigate and record. One benefit I enjoyed was that students can collaborate with students in their class and others who may be in another class. Flipgrid can be used as a way for teachers to keep their students updated when they miss something in class and also as a place for announcements. SW

    1. I completely agree. Flip grid is pretty easy to use which is a good thing because many grade levels can use it. It is a very organized way for Teachers to see their students responses to all the class assignments. CN

    2. While it did take me around 10-15 minutest to familiarize myself with the layout of the site, I have to agree that once you get going, Flipgrid is extremely easy to use and has a very well-designed interface for educators to use. CC

  6. I also agree that is it so easy to use which is why it can be used for so many grade levels! The app also allows the students to be a little independent in their creativity when it comes to the videos.

  9. (I am not sure how I accidently deleted my first post.) Benefits to incorporating Flipgrid into your teaching might include keeping students engaged. Technology plays a great deal in the society and being able to collaborate a lesson with Flipgrid might be fun to the students. Another way Flipgrid is beneficiary is because it is accessible to anyone at any location. Students are able to view flipgrid from any device while still doing something educational.

    1. I agree that it is very helpful that flipgrid can be used on more than just one device. It allows students who are out of town or may not have good internet to be able to log on and get the work done in a timely manner. CC

  13. I really enjoyed both of the readings for Flip grid. Flip grid is very easy for everyone to use and brings a new way of communicating with others thru videos. Flip grid is a way for all students to have a voice on assignments and to make sure that everyone is participating in the class assignments.

  15. Using a Flipgrid in your classroom can be a good way to make sure students are interacting with the material and homework outside of the classroom. It is also a good way for students to begin developing essential computer skills that they will need for their academic careers.

  16. I like how clear and concise your questions and answer choices were. I do not think any elementary-aged student would have any problems completing this Kahoot. CC
