  1. One lesson I did recently is where I had students in groups explain to the class how they solved an additive angle problem. I had them explain their work, they had to explain an angle drawing and then how they knew what to do to solve it. If I wanted to incorporate technology I could always have them do this exact thing, but record the response on Flip Grid.

    1. Having students respond on flipgrid allows them to also see other students so in a way they could help teach each other about angle drawings. You could even have them create their own angle drawings and record their descriptions about them.

    2. This is a a great example of adapting an existing lesson to incorporate a new modality, in this case, video.

    3. This is a great idea. Having students answer on a flip grid allows their peers to see how they answered and shows different ways to solve the problem. CN

    4. This is a neat idea! You could even do this as part of an online assignment where students are to find objects around their house that have certain angles in them, for instance. CC

  2. A lesson that I did this semester with my students was focused on measuring various objects as well as estimating measurements. They had a chart to fill out with their measurements and then we talked about them. Using flipgrid I could have assigned students various objects and then they could have filmed themselves measuring the objects on flipgrid so that I could see how they are measuring.

    1. I think the students at ACE would truly enjoyed using Flipgrid. Even with them being only in the second grade, they are technology advanced. I also could see Flipgrid being shown to the students who may have been absent so that they are able to see how the lesson was taught.

    2. This is a cool idea, A.L. , having them measure the objects themselves and film it would be a cool use of this tool. I can see second graders really enjoying the use of the tool, and also the idea of Flipgrid as a review tool is interesting. How would you envision that? Would the teacher post small videos as "catch up" for those that missed the lesson, or would students post videos as "explainers" to their fellow classmates, LaToya?

    3. This a really awesome idea. Having the students assigned a different object allows them to teach their classmates about measuring that certain object. That way the students are learning from their peers and not only their teacher. CN

    4. That is an interesting idea, Allan. By being able to see how and what they are measuring by, you are essentially "checking their work". I like that, good idea!

  3. This semester I did a math lesson where I introduced the student to some 3D shapes. Even though I did not use flipgrid I could have used Flipgrid as an exit slip to see that the students understood from the lesson. I also could have used Flipgrid as a game where I paired up the students in different groups to see which students could think of geometric solids either in the classroom or home. I believe the students would have really enjoyed being able to use Flipgrid.

    1. having students use the app as a game is a wonderful idea! there's so many different ways to use the app which is why it's great.

    2. Using an exit slip is a great way to check for their understanding. You could even have them show an example of a 3-d shape within the room that they just learned about.

  4. LaToya, I agree the students would have enjoyed using Flipgrid along with your lesson. I like your idea of using flipgrid as a game and pairing students together to challenge each other and also to see what they have learned.

  5. How would you incorporate Flipgrid into an existing Lesson Plan? I would use flipgrid to incorporate how students are feeling about the lesson we are learning and to gather suggestions for where they would like things to go in the future. Flipgrid can help students practice
describing what they learned, explain how what they learned relates to their own experiences, and
indicate areas where they need clarification or additional resources. At the end of my lessons I would let the students use flipgrid before we end the lesson to sum it up in 7, which is making a video stating everything they learned in this lesson up in 7 words. The students could also use flipgrid as a time for students to use their voice to connect ideas to their own experiences as well. SW

    1. this is an idea i would have never thought of. i think it's a wonderful idea to have students share how they believe the lesson is going. its so important to have a students input because they are the ones being taught! great idea and i would def. use this suggestion in the future.

    2. This video at the end of the lesson reminds me of a kind of "exit ticket" and I think Flipgrid is great for that. It's also great for reflections.

    3. Students using Flipgrid to check for understanding is a great way to see how students are doing. I think with the online learning that students are having to do now it would be a great way to connect and check for understanding.

  6. One way I would incorporate Flip grid into a lesson plan that is already existing is by adding it as a exit ticket for the students. I would have a question that the students would have to answer in the video and submit it to the classroom page on Flip grid. CN

  7. If I were to use Flipgrid, I would try to incorporate some kind of creative element for the students to have a little fun with the assignment. For example, I could do a class read-aloud on a flipgrid video and have all of my student response with a video of their own where they dress up as their favorite character from the story and do a short "Reader's Theatre" where they act out what that character did in the story, and why it is important to the overall theme.

  8. I have one lesson planned out called key word detective and students use key words to find the author's purpose in a story. Instead of having the students use a worksheet to turn in as a formative assessment I could have the students record a flip grid acting like they are reporting the information they found as detectives.
