        1. 1.) What advantages/benefits to classroom instruction might Kahoot! afford? Advantages are all learners can feel successful, encourages social play, curriculum-aligned games, Foster discussion and social learning, most of all it is free. One disadvantage is that the answers can only be true or false, yes or no, or multiple choice. Another disadvantage is students receive more points for quicker answers, it can emphasize speed over substance.

2.)n what ways might a teacher use a Kahoot! quiz?

          1. I like how you mentioned the students can feel successful. This has always been one aspect I like about the app is that it really has the student feel accomplished especially when they see their name pop up on the board. I also like the play aspect because it's such a fun and engaging game that can have everyone involved. - Julia Ranson

          2. Julia the quizzes are great or interaction and engagement, especially in a setting like this. It's a nice way to break up the monotony of a regular knowledge check or test for understanding. There are some disadvantages to the limitations of question types in the free version of Kahoot! though.

          3. I can't tell who this comment is from. I will say that you are correct in your criticism that speed can be emphasized over substance in this case due to the scoring system. Great observation.

        2. 1. What problems/ issues do you foresee? One problem i could see would be involving students who feel stressed or under pressure when it comes to a timer. This app seems to have more of a competition feel, which for some students is a great joy, but for others can be very stressful leaving a negative feeling for Kahoot. One way I would try to work around this is to set the timer for a longer time and to also not allow them to see how quickly responses are being sent in.

          2. How can teachers use the results/analytics to evaluate instruction? I know one way I would use the results is to see which questions the majority of students struggle with. This would give me an idea of what content I need to slow down on or go back over. If Kahoot was used as a pre-assessment, I could use the results to see what the students already know and what I do not need to go over.

          2. I would make my students enter a nickname that only I could distinguish so that all students would feel comfortable. I personally do not like using Kahoots because they give me bad anxiety. I have found students love using Kahoots only if they feel comfortable with the questions being asked.

          3. LaToya, this is a good consideration. Other students may have this same level of anxiety when using a Kahoot!. Where do you think the sense of anxiety stems from? The time aspect, the competition? I like the idea of assigned nicknames.

          4. Giving students longer times per question is a great way to help reduce the stress that students can have. Encouraging students to not look at other peoples screens would also help since kahoot gives feedback with the red and green screens.

          5. I like how you mentioned that you could use the results to see certain areas that some students may be struggling in. This is important for deciding if you need to go back and remodel depending on the percentage of your class is having issues.

        4. In what ways might a teacher use a Kahoot! Quiz? A teacher could use Kahoot as a type of formative assessment to see what her students are understanding from the lesson. Kahoot could also be used as a formative assessment where the students are grouped in pairs so that they have help answering questions.
In what ways might a teacher use the reports and analytics to inform their instruction? From results from the Kahoot a teacher might know which different strategies she might want to spend more time on depending on the results. It could also show a teacher if this was a great studying tool or the right assessment tool to use with their students.

          1. I like your idea of grouping them together so they can have help and it can also help them if they feel singled out. Also, focusing on better strategies to use from the results of the Kahoot is a good idea. the teacher can see if the strategy she's been using is working or not and whether or not she needs to try something different!

        5. 1) What problems/issues do you forsee?
When using kahoot students can feel a lot of pressure from the time limit and competition aspect of the games. When the scores and winners are announced students can feel discouraged by not doing as well as other students.
          2) In what ways might a teacher use a Kahoot Quiz?
Teachers can use kahoot as a pretest, to check for understanding throughout units, and even as post test. I have seen teachers use them as tickets out the door. A lot of teachers use kahoots in order to review before assessments.

          1. I agree with you. I as a teacher would be worried that my students would feel uncomfortable and stressed about answering the questions that it would no longer be fun for them anymore. I would not use Kahoot often because I would not want my students to see it as something that is normally used in the classroom. CN

        6. What advantages/benefits to classroom instruction might Kahoot! afford?
An advantage I think Kahoot will bring to the classroom instruction is it being something different. It gets the students excited to quiz over information they have been learning and gives them a chance to earn prize at the end if that's how you decide to run your classroom.
          What issues/barriers do you foresee?
One Issue I see with Kahoot is it being stressful for some kids. The clock that counts down for each question can cause students to shut down to where they won't even answer the questions.
In what ways might a teacher use a Kahoot! quiz?
Teachers could use Kahoot for formative assessments or pretests for students before they begin a new module.
In what ways might a teacher use the reports and analytics to inform their instruction?
The reports and analytics can be used by the teacher to find the weak areas students have in a certain subject area. This will allow the teacher to decide what their students need to study more before the test. CN

          1. I agree that holding a quiz in this kind of fashion makes kids more excited and involved in class. Anything that can break them away from the monotony of sit-down quizzes, tests, and assignments is always a positive thing. CC

        7. 1) In what ways might a teacher use Kahoot? Teachers may use Kahoot for either a warm-up activity to activate prior knowledge, or it can be used as a test review the day before a big test.

          2) What issues/barriers do you forsee? I know that a lot of students do not do well with timed questions, so this may make them anxious and less likely to participate, so you may need to eliminate the time limit to get these students engaged properly. Another thing is that the questions can really only be asked in a multiple choice format, which limits the kinds of questions you can put in the Kahoot. CC

        8. 2)The big issue with Kahoot! is that the competitive nature of the game can leave room for hurt feelings in a classroom. As it is a good tool to measure knowledge, the students that do not know them information well will dread playing the game and will get discouraged about learning if they do not do well. There is always the technology barrier. Some schools cannot afford to have computers in every classroom or for students to all have mobile devices to play.

          3) teachers can use Kahoot! quizzes to practice with students in a fun and engaging way, for a pop quiz, or for a pre and post test durring units.
